Vaping Addiction And The Danger Of E-Cigarettes
Last updated on September 22, 2025
In the short time e-cigarettes have been around, researchers have learned a lot about their effects on the human body. Unfortunately, for as much information as we know, we have that much more mystery on the long-term effects of vaping. What we do know is, while you may argue they are a safer alternative to tobacco, stories of teens put on respirators for vaping use have recently become commonplace in news media.
At Colley Shroyer Abraham, in Columbus, we provide products liability representation for clients harmed by dangerous products. If you or a loved one has been seriously harmed by the negative effects of vaping, we can help you determine whether you have a case to pursue compensation.
Safer Does Not Mean Safe – If You’ve Been Injured, We Can Help
While you may not get chemically addicted to vaping without nicotine, that does not mean you do not risk seriously damaging your body. Many people have heard of the negative impacts of vaping as it relates to the lungs – issues like “popcorn lung” and related illnesses. But, like tobacco use, the effects of vaping spread beyond the lungs and throughout your entire body.
Simply inhaling e-cigarette vapor can harm your vascular system, even without added flavors or nicotine. Your veins may develop troubles contracting and expanding incorrectly, and you increase your risk of a stroke.
JUUL Products Put Their Customers At Risk – We Have The Resources To Help You
JUUL is a company that specializes in manufacturing e-cigarettes. It has been legally targeted for marketing its product to teens. Many teens developed lung-related health issues, and parents have begun building class action lawsuits against the company. If you believe an injury to yourself or a loved one is due to the negative effects of a JUUL product, you may have a case for compensation.
At Colley Shroyer Abraham, our team has provided personal injury representation to Ohio residents for years. We can evaluate your case and determine whether you have a chance at obtaining compensation for vaping product injuries.
The Effects Are Wide-Ranging, And So Is The Compensation
Vaping devices like JUUL bring harmful chemicals into your bloodstream, and the vapor alone can have potentially harmful effects on the body. While researchers only have a little over a decade of data regarding the use of these e-cigarette devices, it is possible to prove their connection to detrimental injuries and illnesses.
Compensation for such personal injuries can cover medical expenses, general pain and suffering, lost wages from missing work and other relevant losses. Our attorneys are known for their success in representing the wronged and injured. We can help you pursue damages for your suffering. Our team has a track record of successful verdicts and settlements in helping victims of personal injuries obtain compensation for their suffering. We have state and national recognition for our verdicts and settlements in products liability and injury cases.
The History Of The JUUL Litigation
The Lawsuits
Individuals, schools and states filed lawsuits against JUUL Labs, Inc., claiming that it targeted ads to minors while minimizing the addictive qualities of nicotine in e-cigarettes. Alleging that JUUL was responsible for a youth vaping epidemic, the plaintiffs asserted that the company’s marketing efforts targeting kids and teens resulted in higher rates of nicotine addiction. This in turn caused health issues and poor school performance, leaving families and schools with a large problem on their hands.
The Litigation And Compensation
In 2018, the North Carolina Department of Justice started to investigate JUUL’s marketing campaigns. In 2019, they were the first state to bring a lawsuit against the company. After that, additional states filed suit against JUUL. Parents and schools also filed lawsuits, which became a Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
Lawsuits continued to be filed, and in 2023 and 2024, the claim deadlines were set. The last day to file a claim for the JUUL settlement or to opt out of the class action was February 5, 2024. While some existing litigation is still in progress, no new claims for this settlement are being accepted now. The company is reported to have paid out approximately $1 billion in settlements as of June 2025.
