When medical mistakes lead to injuries, it’s fair that people will want to file claims against those who made errors. That’s why this case against ProMedica isn’t that surprising. A mother has filed the lawsuit against a physician working for ProMedica after claiming that the physician and staff of several facilities did not provide appropriate medical care. This led, she claims, to the death of her newborn child.
The woman filed a complaint at the end of January on behalf of her son and herself. She filed against ProMedica Toledo Hospital, ProMedica Physician Group, her obstetrician and gynecologist and ProMedica Physicians Obstetrics.
In her complaint, she says that the medical professionals involved in her care failed to monitor her labor as well as her pregnancy before and after delivery. She states that her child wasn’t delivered quickly enough, which meant that he went without blood or oxygen to the brain. She is asking for $10,000 in funeral expenses and an overall monetary judgment of over $25,000.
The provider in this case has been involved in malpractice cases in the past. In 2015, a couple in Toledo was awarded over $10.9 million when the woman suffered a stroke during pregnancy after discussing her symptoms with the physician.
This is a tragic situation, and it’s one that it’s hoped few people will have to go through. If you suffer a loss like this, it’s fair for you to want to hold others accountable for their actions. You deserved to receive appropriate medical care; if you didn’t, then the medical providers should answer for their errors and be held liable for the costs that have accrued as a result.
