Fatal car accident can turn a happy holiday into a sad reminder

The holiday season is in full swing in Ohio. People are shopping, heading to holiday parties and other celebrations. As a consequence, both car and truck traffic have increased. With the increase in traffic comes an increased risk for accidents. A fatal car accident occurred recently in Jackson County.

The accident happened on U.S. 35. A man driving a 2003 Honda Civic was headed west at about 6:30 a.m. A tractor-trailer was heading toward U.S. 35 from Cain Road. According to reports from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the driver of the truck failed to yield when attempting to make a left turn onto U.S. 35.

The Honda Civic hit the left rear of the semi as it was turning left onto the road. The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was uninjured and has not been yet been charged. U.S. 35 was shut down for a couple of hours while police evaluated the scene. The accident remains under investigation.

There is never a good time to lose a loved one in a sudden and preventable car accident in Ohio, but the holiday season is without a doubt one of the worst times for a tragedy to happen. It can mar the holiday season for those left behind for years to come as the holiday becomes a reminder of the tragedy. Nothing can bring a loved one back, but a successfully litigated civil suit against the party deemed responsible may provide compensation for final costs, pain and suffering and other verifiable losses.
