Don’t let a product recall mar the holiday

It is Thanksgiving, and the holiday season is here. No one wants to have his or her holiday festivities marred by an incident of food poisoning. A product recall should serve as a notice for people in Ohio to check their pantry or freezer for potential issues.

This year, spices are included in the recalls that also include ground beef products. Baraka brand curry powder was found to contain high levels of lead, and the UPC codes are 822514265566 for hot curry and 822514265535 for regular curry powder.  The products were shipped to several midwestern states, including Ohio. Consuming products contaminated with lead can be particularly harmful to children. Products should be returned to the point of purchase.

Ground beef that was sold under brand names including Walmart, Cedar River Farms Natural Beef, Showcase, Showcase/Walmart and JBS Generic that was distributed to several states, including Ohio, has been found to be contaminated with salmonella. The USDA inspection stamp includes EST 267. The number of illnesses reported is at 122, including 33 people who required hospitalization. Symptoms of salmonella include diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever. Symptoms typically appear within 12 – 72 hours and can last up to 7 days, and severe cases, or those involving the very young or the very old, may require hospitalization.

A person in Ohio who believes he or she or a loved one has fallen ill due to a case of food poisoning resulting from consuming a food that is part of a product recall should contact a personal injury attorney. A knowledgeable lawyer can review the facts of the incident and help the client to determine what legal options are available. A successfully litigated civil suit can assist with medical costs and other verifiable losses.
