Product recall linked to a possible e-coli outbreak

The USDA exists to maintain safety in the United States food supply. People in Ohio go to a grocery store and trust the process that is in place to protect the food that they are purchasing. This allows them to shop with confidence that the food they are buying is safe to eat. While that is almost always the case, occasionally problems arise and a product recall is issued.

Recently, a batch of ground beef was delivered to a number of national grocery stores and was found to possibly be contaminated with e-coli. Many of these stores were in Ohio and include Meijer, Sam's Club and a Target distribution Center in West Jefferson. One person has died from a recent e-coli outbreak, and 17 people became ill. The outbreak is believed to have come from the batch of ground beef that has been recalled. The batch included 3, 10 and 20 pound packages, and the brands included Our Certified, Excel, Sterling Silver, Certified and Fire River; the items were tagged with a July 11 use by or freeze by date.

The symptoms of e-coli include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. More severe reactions can lead to kidney failure. Someone who believes he or she may be suffering from e-coli may wish to consult a physician.

In the event that someone becomes seriously ill and suffers long-term affects from a product recall in Ohio, he or she might wish to consult with a personal injury attorney. A knowledgeable attorney can review the facts of the case and advise a client on what legal paths are available. If a civil suit is possible, it may provide compensation for medical expenses and lost wages.
