Prom night and a tragic car crash

On Behalf of | May 7, 2018 | Car Accidents |

It’s spring and spring means high school proms in Ohio. Proms should be a time of celebration and creating high school memories. All too often, prom memories include memories of tragedies. Young drivers may be excited about the festivities and become distracted. A tragic car crash can result.

Such was the case for a young woman on her way to prom with a group of friends. A Monroe high school student was driving to the dance with her classmates when her car veered to the right; she overcorrected, causing the car to hit a telephone pole. A young woman was sitting in the back seat and was not wearing a seat belt. She was thrown free of the car and later died from her injuries. The driver and two other passengers were treated at a local hospital and released.

Prom season should be a time of joy for high school juniors and seniors. Sadly, it can also be a time of tragedy. It is important that parents tell their children to be mindful of traffic laws and wear their seat belts at all times.

When a tragedy such as the one above occurs in Ohio, the families and the loved ones of the young people involved in a car crash are likely to be overwhelmed by grief and unsure of where to turn. A conversation with an experienced personal injury attorney may guide the person’s loved ones on the best path to pursue. A successfully litigated claim can assist with medical costs, final costs and other losses.
