Product recall again at the forefront for Ikea

A massive recall of 17.3 million chests and dressers has been launched once again after another child has died. Dressers from Ikea that were not correctly attached to the wall have killed eight children. Questions have been raised about whether Ikea has been effective enough in getting the message out about the product recall. In Ohio and every other state, Ikea has been trying to heighten the public's awareness of the potential risks.

The company contends that an extensive communication campaign has been underway for months using social media, websites, prints ads, television ads and emails to 13 million customers. Ikea is offering free wall mounting kits for children's chest of drawers taller than 23.5 inches and adult chests taller than 29.5. Ikea has also agreed to send crews out to install kits in the customer's home.

To date, a million dressers have been returned or have received the mounting kits. The store has offered an array of options to customers on the recalled furniture. Customers can call and arrange a pickup or take the product to the store and receive a partial credit. Ikea no longer sells dressers that do not conform to voluntary standards.

The safety of a child is of the utmost importance to everyone, and losing a child because of the negligence of others is a tragedy that could have been avoided. Though this company may have attempted to communicate to the public about its product recall, it was not enough to save another child's life. In Ohio, families who have tragically lost loved ones in accidents such as this may want to contact a personal injury attorney to examine the situation and determine what legal options are available to them.
