Alleged medical mistake results in additional $26,000 surgery

Whether in Ohio or anywhere else in the nation, doctors go through years of training and, consequently, charge high prices for the medical services they provide based on their area of expertise. Patients everywhere rely on this knowledge to ensure their well-being. A medical mistake can prove costly, and not just in terms of money; patients' health and even their lives are often at stake.

In another state, a woman recently filed a lawsuit alleging just such a medical mistake. Following a surgical procedure, she was supposedly informed by health care professionals that she was cancer free. Sadly, this was not the case. She filed a complaint in August, alleging medical malpractice and negligence in an attempt to hold the responsible parties accountable for their egregious error.

Per the complaint, the woman sought treatment for breast cancer in 2015. In December of that year, she underwent a mastectomy. According to the plaintiff, the defendants -- the university health center where the claimed error was made and the university itself -- failed to detect or diagnose the malignant lymph nodes that remained in her body.

This failure is said to have resulted in a 50-day delay in the woman's cancer treatment. Furthermore, the additional surgery cost $26,000, on top of the travel expenses involved in receiving the second round of treatment. For the medical mistake, the woman is seeking both actual and special damages with interests and court costs, as well as other equitable relief. Residents of Ohio who have similarly suffered injuries or illnesses may wish to explore their options for justice with an experienced medical malpractice attorney, who can offer guidance on seeking just compensation.
